A previous client of ours called to ask if we could “fix” his daughter’s 2000 Chevy Silverado. As the story goes, she had a boyfriend replace the radio and now, neither the radio nor the dash lights worked! When she told her dad that her boyfriend was going to do it, Dad originally insisted we do the work instead. But the boyfriend said, “On the Go Tech? I bought a radio there once and put it in my Chevy. It’ll be no problem!” Dad reluctantly agreed and the rest was history.
Part of the value in letting us do the installation is our experience in knowing that we have probably seen it before, and we will know how to roll with unexpected events. In this case, the truck had already had an aftermarket radio in it, so the proper adapters and parts had been used previously in that install. The boyfriend got confused because the proper adapters weren’t in his truck when he performed his “install.”
In this instance, he resorted to the worst solution of all and cut off all the factory and aftermarket harnesses wiring – and electrically shorted out the dimmer portion of the headlight switch in doing so!
We rewired the deck, finished the install, and troubleshot and replaced the headlight multi-function switch for her. Now she can see her instrument cluster at night again, and use the Bluetooth hands-free functions built into her new radio.
Don’t let amateurs perform your installations and cause more damage to your vehicle, as well as more time and money out of your pocket in footing the repair bill. Let the experts at On the Go Tech do what we do best and give your vehicle the proper care and expert knowledge needed for proper installation of aftermarket equipment.
